What is Collaborative Law
Collaborative Law is an alternative dispute legal resolution process where each party hires their own Collaboratively-Trained Attorney.  Both parties and both attorneys contractually agree that the case will be negotiated and settled out of court.  In an effort to facilitate good-intentioned negotiations, both lawyers have to recuse themselves if the case ends up in court.  The "Collaborative Team" will always include two attorneys and can include a financial neutral, mental health professionals, or child specialists- depending on the needs of the parties.  Karen is a certified Collaborative Attorney and a proud member of the New York Association for Collaborative Professionals. Â
What is the Difference between Collaborative Law and Mediation?
Both Collaborative Law and Mediation keep you OUT of court and enable you and your spouse to make decisions for your family. Which process is best for you depends on how much support you think you need. In Collaborative Law, you hire Karen to be your own personal lawyer and she represents you in all negotiations. Â In Mediation, Karen serves as a neutral third party for both of you and assists the two of you to come up with solutions. Â
